Packaging Disposal Instructions
At Erleia, our products are made in earth-friendly packaging, but we need your help to dispose of them properly. To make it easy, here’s a guide on how to dispose your packaging (aka empties!) once you've used up your products:
Paper Tubes
These instructions apply to our Lotion Bar, Under Eye Balm, Face Balm, Signature Clay Mask, Humble Cleanser, Heel and Foot Balm
Our tubes are made from paper and will break down in the solid waste stream. You can toss them in the trash or your home compost (as long as you’re actively composting at home).
If you live in a place that composts non-food items, you can toss it in your compost pickup. In Colorado, our city and private compost services don't accept non-food compostables, so it’s best to self-compost or throw them in the trash.
Why not recycle them? Since the tubes can't be "rinsed clean" like glass, we don't want to recycle them and potentially contaminate the recycling stream. Better safe than sorry!
Oil Bottles
These instructions apply to our Face Oils & Cleansing Oils
Remember the old adage reduce, reuse, recycle? It’s still the best practice for sustainability - in that order. Do your best to reduce packaging, if you can’t reduce then reuse, if you can’t reuse, recycle!
Bottles are the trickiest thing to dispose of, so our top recommendation is to reuse/refill your bottle.
- Make sure your bottle is completely empty.
- Rinse out your bottle - they are not dishwasher-safe and you shouldn’t use strong solvents on them. Use a mild or gentle soap.
- Let dry completely, upside down, before putting another product in it.
If you are unable to reuse:
- Peel off the label and discard.
- The bottle is industrially compostable, if you live in a place that composts non-food items, put the bottle in your compost pick up. *Appropriate facilities may not exist in your area.
- Disassemble the dropper, discard the rubber piece in the trash and recycle the rest of the dropper.
These bottles are USDA Certified 95% Bio-based, so they cannot be recycled. They do break down in tabletop composters and food recyclers, so you can also compost them there or place them in the trash where they will eventually break down.
Boxes
These instructions apply to our Face Oil Boxes, Cleansing Oil Boxes, Gift Set Boxes
All of our boxes are fully recyclable. Dispose of them with your regular recycling.
