What is Double Cleansing?

The term “double cleansing” has become a beauty buzzword in the last few years, but what does it really mean?

What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is a skincare technique that involves using two different types of cleansers to clean the skin. The first step is to use an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, sunscreen, and other oil-based impurities. This is followed by a second step using a second cleanser to remove sweat, dirt, and other impurities.

Double cleansing is particularly beneficial because it helps to thoroughly clean the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. By using both types of cleansers, you are able to remove all impurities from your skin, leaving it feeling clean but still hydrated.

What are the benefits of double cleansing?

Double cleansing can dissolve impurities

When impurities build up on the skin, they can become trapped in the pores, leading to blackheads and other forms of acne. By using an oil-based cleanser first, you are able to dissolve the impurities, allowing them to be easily washed away with a second cleanser.

Double cleansing improves overall skin appearance

Double cleansing can also help to improve the overall appearance of the skin. By thoroughly cleaning the skin, you remove impurities and dead skin cells, which can leave your skin looking dull and tired. By using both types of cleansers, the skin is left looking bright and refreshed.

Double cleansing can increase product effectiveness

Another advantage of double cleansing is that it can help to improve the effectiveness of other skincare products that you may be using. By thoroughly removing impurities and makeup, your skin can better absorb and make use of serums, moisturizers, and other skincare products that you apply afterwards.

How do you double cleanse?

If you’re new to double cleansing, incorporate it gradually into your routine. A few times a week, use an oil based cleanser at night before your regular cleanser. As you get used to the routine, increase it as your skin tolerates it - you can even add double cleansing to your morning routine if you’d like!

Double cleansing is simple!

  1. Dispense oil cleanser into your palms and gently massage onto dry skin for about one minute.
  2. Rinse off the oil cleanser with warm water, or gently wipe off with a washcloth.
  3. Follow up with a gentle cleanser of your choice.
  4. Rinse off with warm water.
  5. Pat skin dry and continue with your skincare routine (don’t forget to moisturize!)

As always, be sure to patch test any new product before using it all over your face, especially if you have a history of sensitive skin.

Although it’s an extra step in your skincare routine, double cleansing is an easy way to really make sure you’re removing all the impurities on your skin. Plus, who doesn’t want skin that is refreshed, rejuvenated and has a healthy overall appearance?
