A sichuan peppercorn infused gin and gin-based cocktail

Lunar New Year Cocktail Recipes

Lunar New Year is celebrated across many Asian cultures. This year, we’re teaming up with 2 fellow AAPI woman-owned brands, Happy Tummy Asia & Fern and Skye, to celebrate with an Instagram giveaway.

And, since many cultures celebrate the holiday with good food and drinks, we're also excited to share some Lunar New Year-inspired cocktail recipes by Alex Wang:

Sichuan Peppercorn Infused Gin

Ingredients:

  • 4 oz London Dry Gin
  • 1/2-3/4 tsp Sichuan Peppercorns

Instructions:

Add both ingredients into a mason jar. Close the jar and let sit in a dark and cool space for at least 1.5 to 6 hours. Alex recommends tasting the infusion starting at the 1 hour mark and leaving the peppercorns in the jar until the infusion has reached your preferred level of spice and numbing. The longer you leave the peppercorns in, the more spicy and numbing it’ll become.

When it’s ready, strain out the peppercorns. The infusion is stable at room temperature for up to a year, when kept away from direct sunlight.

Sichuan Peppercorn Infused Gin Cocktails

What can you make with your Sichuan peppercorn infusion? Any gin-based drinks!

Alex says, "Gin & tonic with a sprig of rosemary or lemon peel is perfect with your Lunar New Year's Eve appetizers."

And her personal favorite is a negroni! She says, "The infusion gives this Italian staple a kick and adds complexity, along with an additional citrusy aroma."

Sichuan Peppercorn Negorni

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Sichuan Peppercorn Infused Gin
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth
  • Cubed ice*
  • An orange or lemon peel

Instructions:

Add your ingredients into a mixing jar with cubed ice, and give it around 20 stirs. Alex suggests, "Resist the urge to shake!" Then strain the liquid into a rocks glass. Add one big ice sphere or block to your glass, and top with an orange or lemon peel. Now, you’re ready to celebrate Lunar New Year!

*On ice, Alex says, "Ice is extremely important! Use freshly made ice and only stir with cubed ice. Try to avoid shaved or crushed ice for this recipe. For your glass, make sure your ice sphere, block or cube is large enough to fit snuggly in the glass."

Bonus: If you have some shichimi togarashi (a common Japanese spice mix), sprinkle some on top of your G&T or Negroni!

A huge thank you to Alex Wang for sharing these delicious recipes. And don't forget to head over to our Instagram to enter our giveaway!
